The Power of the Tongue

The tongue is said to be the most powerful muscle in the body, in terms of strength obviously it is not! Just try mowing your yard pushing the mower with your tongue! But even though it has no bones and only the strength to move food around in your mouth, it has the power to break a heart or destroy life. Our human tongues are quite unique and so highly functional that we often overlook all that the tongue is responsible for in our day to day lives. The Taste Buds are a great reason to be thankful for your tongue, especially if you are a foodie! We have between 2,000 and 8,000 little portals that flavours pass through when mixed with saliva. Then the message is sent from the taste buds to the brain to identify sweet, bitter, salty, sour, and savory flavours. Yum! At one stage... Read More

Public Speaking: You CAN Do it.

I recently had a wonderful experience. I was asked to speak to a group of people. Now, other than public speaking at Lifeplan Seminars, I hadn’t spoken for a long time. But I remembered the issues I had had a few years ago and decided to do something about them. You see, I knew how to give a good speech. I am a Competent Communicator, this title was  bestowed upon me by Toastmasters but nerves can make you look like a complete imbecile. So I enlisted the help of my best mate (no, not Wyley) God. On the way to the engagement I asked for his help. I asked for him to speak through me. For my words to impact the audience and change them in a little way, for the better.  Public speaking can be a self-seeking and prideful endeavour, so when it’s him/God and not me, then I... Who are You?

How can we attain balance between a healthy self esteem and insecurity without going over into pride? It’s knowing who we are. If you call Christ Lord it’s knowing who you are in Christ. So who are you? With the journey I am on in life this question has at times been a difficult one to answer. Because as I strive for a career in the arts I am constantly rejected and miss out on opportunities that others get. This can sometimes lead me to feel many negative feelings. I have to keep reminding myself who I am. So this check list helps us on our way. 1. Do you go out of your way to honor people on a daily basis. I know a friend of mine who does an act of random kindness to one person a day. What a wonderful attitude of servant hood. It’s good for them and... Read More

Phases of Life

No one can prepare you for the next phase of life that you are facing, because we are all so different and we don’t  go through the same phases in the same way. But we do go through phases. I’m talking about from teenage to young single working adult, then married, then some of us have children, then children that we know marry, and have children of their own, then there’s retirement and so on. Sounds so simple the order of life. Of course some people are very happy to stay in one phase and miss the others. Others just effortlessly flow in and through the phases of life without any hitches. They are ready and excited about the new adventure. Now I’m into adventure but I wasn’t ready for the pitter patter of grandchildren, no way! I blame it on the... Read More

Faith, Active or Passive?

What sort of Faith do you have? The other day a guy said to me “I don’t have any faith”, but then he sat in a chair he had never seen before and I challenged him, “you just sat in a chair you’d never sat in before and had faith to believe it would hold you as you sat down, that’s faith!” He then said, “but I’m not religious”, I said “probably the chair isn’t religious either.” So what does faith even mean? Google has over 140,000,000 results but top of the page reads something like this. 1. Complete trust or confidence in someone or something. (A CHAIR) 2. Strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof. (THERE WAS NO PROOF THE CHAIR WOULD HOLD... Read More
