Part 2 Effective Prayer
EFFECTIVE PRAYER Part 2
(Continuing our series on Spritual Warfare)
Once you know your authority, you need to know about binding and loosing. In Matthew 12:29 it asks the question; “how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder the house.” So we need to know who the strong man is. Always let the Holy Spirit be in charge and use discernment (Seeing into the spiritual realm). In 2 Kings 6:17 Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw …” The servant saw the hills filled with fighting angels, just as Elisha had seen. Discernment shows us what is happening in the spiritual realm, enabling us to proceed in prayer. You can always ask God for the gift of discernment or pray with someone who has discernment. Listening is a key part of warfare.
We should be listening twice as much as speaking because God may reveal strongholds, battle plans of the enemy, actions to take and prayer strategies. Be sensitive to his voice. Even in silence don’t succumb to unbelief. Focus on God’s faithfulness and the breakthrough will come. Test all things; both, what you see and hear and what others see and hear. Everything must be in line with God’s Word and character. If it isn’t it may be from the enemy.
God’s will and timing is all important. As impatient humans, we want all our problems solved yesterday. God has an agenda and he knows the outcome. The problem starts when he shows us something that needs attention, but he doesn’t tell us what to do. God wants us to wait on him. Instead, our fleshly desire responds like a bulldozer trying to eradicate the problem. And we are left wondering why the problem still exists, and are now we are left with disappointment and confusion on top of it all. Wait on God. His timing is perfect.
I encourage you to learn more about spiritual warfare. There are many good books on the subject[i]. Oz Challenge is a prayer ministry that not only pray with people but also provide courses on Spiritual Warfare[ii]. Although every Christian has the authority to tear down strongholds, we need the wisdom to proceed. Always pray with an experienced prayer ministry team.
Sometimes after much prayer the answers are not always what we want but we must not lose heart, the next person you pray for could be the miracle God wants to show through you.
